Strandberg Masvidalien guitar
Ola Strandberg and his expert team at Strandberg Guitarworks have built my dream guitar and I am filled with gratitude. This instrument is a timeless piece of art crafted with so much love and attention to detail, it's truly unlike anything out there. This is not a guitar -- it's a reinvention of the instrument as we know it. And now it can be yours. Take the leap.
You will be enthralled and inspired to greater musical heights. Hear its magic on the new album from Cynic, coming Fall 2013. -- Paul

Cynic enter Perfect Sound Studios to begin recording new album
CYNIC have entered Perfect Sound studios in Hollywood, California to begin recording a new album.
About the new material, drummer Sean Reinert said: "This album marks CYNIC's 5th release. It's a bold new sound for CYNIC and marks a gigantic leap in the band's progression. We've had a lot of time to let this material develop and gestate, and it finally feels ready to be unleashed on the world. I've been in trio mode with Malone and Masvidal flushing out a zillion and one details, and couldn't be happier about what's happening with these songs. They are truly alive!"
Early working titles for tracks include: "Endlessly Bountiful", "Moon Heart Sun Head", and "True Hallucination Speak".

Album update
Ok friends, You got my attention...here's an official update. I've been working away in the home studio writing lots of new songs and keeping off the grid to stay creatively focused. Apologies for having been a bit reclusive in our digital age of informational abundance!
It's safe to say that Cynic already has plenty of material for a new record, but something keeps the inspiration going to write more. I feel like I'm on for the ride and just seeing what manifests as a result of sitting on the train and looking out the window. As we move further along and closer to 'destination recording', the album will start to shape itself and the appropriate songs will be chosen.
We're looking at late summer / early fall to enter the studio. At the moment, I have no idea when the record will be released. Maybe later this year or early next. We're also in communication with lots of fantastic new musicians who will be involved. I can already sense this next album is going to take our listeners on a whole new sonic adventure that words cannot yet describe. I say this because the work is feeling based and there's a lot of life poured into these embryos that will speak for themselves when heard. I'm always amazed at how living life informs the art so directly and yet we have no power over it.
The songs have a directness and urgency unlike anything we've done before due to a bountiful influx of concentrated life experiences. Thank the universe for the gift of music. I am so absolutely grateful to be alive and to be able to share the potency and beauty of music with you. In the meantime keep spreading the love and thank you for taking this journey with us. Happy holidays from Cynic
Dear Cynic family,
Here's a fantastic music video experiment our talented friend and colleague, Jeremy Light from Veil Film, brilliantly whipped together for the song 'Wheels Within Wheels'...happy holidaze...enjoy..thanks for your support.
Much love, Cynic
Click here to view the video
"Like some bxw abstract noir film, Jeremy Light visually interprets Wheels Within Wheels as an art book song. Bizarre shapes and fragmented light bounce around and take form only to dissolve again into flurries of chaos and order much like the music itself. Beauty and transcendence are considered some of Cynic's elemental qualities, and this video seems to explore that feeling with complete abandon and precision at once. Hat's off to Jeremy!"
"Cynic's transcendent and philosophical leanings take abstract shape in this mind-expanding visual feast."

LINEUP CHANGE
Dear Cynic Fans,
We're announcing a change in the band's lineup this winter. After much soul-searching and discussion, Cynic will say goodbye to bassist Robin Zielhorst and guitarist Tymon Kruidenier. This decision was reached mutually, with great respect for each other as people and the work that we've done over the past 2-3 years. The logistical challenges of maintaining a band that is half based in The Netherlands and the other half in the United States (drummer Sean Reinert and guitarist Paul Masvidal live in California), has become unworkable. The pre-production stages for Cynic's next release have just begun and it seemed like an appropriate time to define the next chapter of the band. The new Cynic release is coming in summer 2011 on the Season of Mist label.
Paul Masvidal comments: "Tymon and Robin are great guys whose hard work made it possible for Cynic to get back out on the road and tour the world with Traced In Air. I'm really grateful for their contribution and presence, and look forward to seeing where their talents and music will take them next.
Robin Zielhorst comments: "It has been an honor to play and perform in Cynic. Tymon and I would like to thank Paul and Sean for the opportunity and to especially thank the fans for their support and for warmly welcoming us into the Cynic family. We look forward to seeing you all on the road soon."
Cynic's immediate plan is to continue writing and do pre-production for their new record. They are also working towards a remixed re-release of their classic recording "Focus." Robin and Tymon plan to work on a new release from their band Exivious, which will likely be recorded in Tymon's new soon-to-be completed recording studio
Please direct any inquiries to Cynic's manager Andy Karp at info@artisthaven.net.
Thank you,
Paul & Sean

US TOUR DONE, GETTING READY FOR ALBUM NUMBER 3!
Dear Cynic family,
We'd like to thank you guys for making our first ever US headlining tour a great success and a lot of fun for us personally! Not only did we have a great time performing a set list this extensive, there was also a real family vibe going on behind the scenes between us, our crew and the guys from Intronaut and Dysrhythmia.
As we are wrapping up our touring cycle for Traced In Air and Re-Traced with this successful tour, it's time to get ready for album number 3! The first baby steps into this gigantic process are being taken right now, creating little embryos of songs that will turn into fully fledged CYNIC tunes over the course of the following months, exciting!
All the best,

It’s going to be a journey directly into Cynic’s pulsating, vibrant heart.”
“Decibel is honored to have a band of the caliber and historical significance of Cynic to headline our inaugural Hall of Fame tour,” added Decibel Editor-in-Chief Albert Mudrian. “Their Focus album has withstood the test of time like few other records, and I’m thrilled that death and progressive metal fans can experience its live power on this special tour.”

CYNIC RE-DRAWN
Upcoming release: RE-TRACED
Release date: May 17th, US May 18th
RE-TRACED, CYNIC's upcoming EP made of four remakes of songs from the TRACED IN AIR album, a previously unreleased track and a video, is set for a May 17th release. Here is the artwork and tracklisting:
1. Space
2. Evolutionary
3. King
4. Integral
5. Wheels Within Wheels
Frontman Paul Masvidal comments: "The artwork on the EP takes Venosa's original song paintings from the TRACED IN AIR booklet and reinterprets them by extracting the basic outlines, almost appearing as though they are etched in wood. Travis Smith helped manifest these conceptions graphically. The idea was to have the 'tracing' of the original work in tact, so it almost morphs into a simple line drawing of the sculptural shapes found in Venosa's work. The end result appears like unearthed, archival etchings from an alien planet."

Decibel Magazine inducts Cynic's 'Focus' into its Hall of Fame
"Focus almost never happened. Hurricane Andrew (a Category 5 storm that devastated South Florida in 1992), bassists frequently exiting and three separate visits to Morrisound Studios could’ve cost the world Cynic. Despite Andrew—considered a blessing by vocalist/guitarist Paul Masvidal—the setbacks and Roadrunner Records’ visionless disposition, the Miami-based quartet persevered, crafting eight exhilarating, uncommonly technical songs that would spark death metal anew. Unlike any before (Death’s Human comes close) and after (Gorguts’ Obscura righteously bends minds), Focus dropped jaws, defied expectations and expanded horizons. The problem was that too few outside the band—from fans to label reps—understood Cynic’s sophisticated, barely metal musical language." -Decibel

Thank you,
Paul & Sean

RE-TRACED / RE-FOCUSED LIVE!
Decibel Magazine and Cynic are proud to announce the inaugural Hall of Fame tour! Historic in every sense, the Hall of Fame tour, titled Re-Traced / Re-Focused Live, will see progressive metal icons Cynic perform Hall of Fame album Focus in its entirety, along with tracks from the group’s lauded second album, Traced in Air, and more. Direct support comes from progressive masters Intronaut and Dysrhythmia.
“We’re not only excited about this Hall Of Fame tour with Decibel, we’re committed to giving Cynic fans a unique and memorable concert experience unlike ever before,” says Cynic frontman/guitarist Paul Masvidal. “Focus will be performed in its entirety from start to finish, along with Traced in Air and beyond.
